DefectDojo Vulnerability Deduplication — Triaging Security Scans
Integrating automated security scanners like Trivy and Gitleaks into continuous integration pipelines is an essential first step in modern DevSecOps. However, teams quickly encounter the next major operational challenge: vulnerability fatigue. When CI runs ten times a day and each run generates a fresh vulnerability report, developers are flooded with duplicate findings.
Without a centralized vulnerability management platform, security alerts turn into an overwhelming wall of noise. To transform transient scanner logs into an actionable, prioritized security backlog, our Woodpecker pipeline imports all security reports into self-hosted OWASP DefectDojo.
A standalone vulnerability scanner evaluates a single point in time. It prints a list of CVEs into the terminal and exits. It does not know whether a specific CVE was discovered yesterday, whether an engineer already investigated it, or whether the team accepted the risk.
