Building the Live CI Pipeline Snapshot on the Engineering Hub
Many engineering portfolios claim to follow modern DevOps practices, citing continuous integration, automated testing, and disciplined delivery in bulleted résumé lists. However, claims without tangible evidence are easy to overlook. What if a portfolio could prove its CI/CD discipline in real time on its public pages?
On our portfolio's Engineering Hub (`/engineering`), visitors can inspect a Live CI Snapshot card displaying real-time metrics from our self-hosted Woodpecker CI pipeline: the latest commit hash, build status, execution duration, and individual step outcomes (lint, test, build, QA). Here is how we automated that live telemetry pipeline.
During every pipeline run, Woodpecker CI injects standardized environment variables into running containers: `CI_COMMIT_SHA`, `CI_COMMIT_BRANCH`, `CI_BUILD_NUMBER`, `CI_BUILD_STATUS`, and timestamp markers.
